    This predicted path of totality was actually a little bit off. I live in Dayton, OH and we were told when it was first announced back in 2017 that we would be just outside the path of totality, and if we wanted to see totality we woukd have to hop in the car and head about 25 miles north. A couple weeks before the eclipse they told us that the predicted path had shifted to where were now inside the path of totality. Sure enough, I was able to witness 2 minutes and 50 seconds of awe inspiring totality right from my backyard.

    Nice animation! I have been to five total solar eclipses and developed the two best tools to help "first or second-timers" get the most enjoyment out of the eclipse. I have a solar eclipse timer app that was the #1 eclipse timing app used for the 2017 eclipse. I wrote a truly unique eclipse preparation book that will make you so prepared! Search for Solar Eclipse Timer and you will find my website with all of the information. It is also the name of my UA-cam channel with hours of free eclipse preparation content.

    The side with a diagonal slash seems super crisp while the other side looks softer. Is the other side a different texture or is the image quality lower for some reason? Not that I'm complaining. The New Horizons mission is an astounding accomplishment and this is a wonderful video.

    • @aresmars2003
      @aresmars2003 Рік тому

      Yes, both aperiodic and periodic comets exist. Periodic ones have long elliptical orbits. Aperiodic ones are parabolic, falling from Oort cloud, but can become periodic if Jupiter encounter slows them down. Halley's comet barely goes outside of Neptune in its ~76 year orbit, a perfect period for human lifetimes to recognize its nature. Interstellar ones can be hyperbolic and come from other stars, but so far we've only see 1-2 of those. We'll find many more of all sorts in the coming decades with Rubins survey observatory with first light 2023-2024.

  • @jirenthegrey1333
    @jirenthegrey1333 Рік тому

    It's not a comet. It's a vessel. Think about it, the sun's magnetic pull does not reach that far beyond our solar system, it's a course not an orbit.

    • @aresmars2003
      @aresmars2003 Рік тому

      It's gravity not magneticism. Orbits are caused by gravity and Neptune and Pluto orbit at similar distances as Halley's aphelion.

    Leider ist sogar ein Viertel der Normalgeschwindigkeit noch zu schnell um zu erkennen, dass das Objekt der Venus gelegentlich recht nahe kommt. Auch der Mars könnte Bahnstörungen verursachen, aber halt seltener. Gut, dass der Brocken nicht noch größer ist !

I observed a small asteroid like object in FOV of Jupiter at these dates one and a half hours past sundown from Central Western Germany, Ruhr area. Object was definitely very close on another focal plane than Jupiter, maybe enlighted by moon.

    • @aresmars2003
      @aresmars2003 2 роки тому

      You can download its ra/dec vs time from JPL Horizons for any time period. You need star charts to plot, but you can also compare to Jupiter at the same period. It would be unsual to find an asteroid since they move slowly, but you might have seen a satellite as well. ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/horizons/app.html#/
